Earthquake 4.2 September 20, 2:53 am (GMT -5)
A magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred early in the morning of Monday, September 20, 2021 at 2:53 a.m. local time near Espinar, Provincia de Espinar, Cusco, Peru, as reported by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the earthquake was located at an intermediate depth of 142 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its great relative depth below the surface, making it weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake could be revised in the coming hours or minutes, as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or when other agencies release their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the earthquake was felt by many people and caused no damage. In Condorcuyo (25 inhab. 13 km away), Ccolo (3,900 inhab. 35 km away), Chivay (4,500 inhab. 39 km away), Jayune (4,300 inhab. 55 km away), Huarancante (4,600 inhab. , 59 km), Llongasora (4,800 inhabitants, 60 km), Orcopampa (5,600 inhabitants, 64 km) and Espinar (23,900 inhabitants, 69 km), the earthquake was probably not felt.
