A 4.3 magnitude earthquake near Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur, Bagmati province, Nepal, was reported just 20 minutes ago by the Indian National Seismological Center (NCS), considered the main national agency which monitors seismic activity in that part of the world. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate to considerable depth of 171.8 km below the epicenter in the early afternoon of Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 2:27 p.m. local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the quake could be revised in the coming hours or minutes, as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or when other agencies release their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the earthquake was felt by many people and caused no damage. In Kodari (1,600 inhabitants, 44 km), Dhulikhel (16,300 inhabitants, 94 km), Banepā (17,200 inhabitants, 94 km), Madhyapur Thimi (83,000 inhabitants, 98 km), Panauti̇̄ (pop. At 27,600, 99 km), Kathmandu (1,442,300 inhabitants, 101 km) and Patan (183,300 inhabitants, 103 km), the earthquake was probably not felt.
VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update the magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant earthquake news becomes available.
