A second report was then released by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), which also listed it as a 4.9 magnitude earthquake.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused significant damage, but was likely felt by many as a slight vibration in the epicenter area.
Weak tremors were felt in Novaya Chara (4,400 inhabitants) located 68 km from the epicenter, Chara (2,000 inhabitants) 75 km and Kuanda (9,600 inhabitants) 90 km.
