Just 7 minutes ago, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck near Fortuna, Humboldt County, California, United States. The tremor was recorded late on Wednesday night, September 29, 2021 at 11:37 p.m. local time at a shallow depth of 14 miles below the surface.
The event was classified by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) which also listed the magnitude 3.3 earthquake.
Cities near the epicenter where the quake could have been felt as very weak tremors include Scotia (pop. 850) located 18 miles from the epicenter, Rio Dell (pop. 3,400) at 18 miles, and Ferndale ( pop. 1400) 19 miles away. At Fortuna (pop. 12,000, 23 miles), Eureka (pop. 27,000, 36 miles), Bayside (17,100, 40 miles), Uniontown (pop. 17,800, 41 miles) and McKinleyville (pop. 15,200 , 46 miles), the quake was probably not felt.
