- Google Maps allows you to change the navigation icon.
- The app offers four cool vehicle icons for navigation.
- The function is not available for all modes of transport.
Google Maps is an excellent navigation app and widely used in India. When navigating to any location, the app uses a blue arrow to clearly show you which direction you should be heading. Using the navigation icon for all trips is annoying, especially when Google offers a cool cartoonish car icon. Yes, you can replace the blue arrow with a car or other vehicle and even switch back to the arrow at any time. If you travel a lot and are tired of using the same navigation icon, keep reading to learn more about how you can use other great options.
Google Maps: how to change your navigation icon
Step 1: Simply open the Google Maps app on your smartphone or tablet.
2nd step: Now you have to search for the destination first by entering the location in the search bar, which is on the top of the screen.
Step 3: Once you get the location details on the screen, just tap “Routes” and then the “Start” button. It should be noted that if you do not complete this step, you will not be able to change the navigation icon.
Step 4: Google Maps will now show you the navigation icon. Just tap on it and the app will display four vehicle icons. Users can then select their preferred icon by tapping on one of them.
To note: You won’t need to change the icon for the next trip and the Google Maps app will show the same. However, this will change if you use the navigation app in Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode. This only happens temporarily and when you return to full screen mode the app will show you the new icon.
Also, this feature only works when you choose navigation by “Drive” instead of other modes of transport. The feature is not available for other travel modes like train, bus and bike. If you first choose the new vehicle option in Drive mode and then switch to other modes, Google Maps will not work. So there is no workaround to use this cool feature with other modes of transport.
